PNG Ports sponsor 6th PNG Games

The Host Organising Committee (HOC) of the BSP PNG Games is delighted to announce PNG Ports Corporation Limited (PNGPCL) as a major sponsor.

PNGPCL has announced its support of K350,000 towards the 6th staging of the Games, which will be held in Lae, Morobe Province.

PNGPCL is PNG’s major port service provider, providing the gateway to most provinces and islands around the nation. Among its 15 ports, Lae Port is by far the largest and is currently undergoing a major upgrade and expansion to meet soaring demand.

The 2014 edition of the biennial PNG Games will be held from the 16th to the 29th of November, with an emphasis on national unity as well as establishing the games as the pathway to regional and international competitions.

In presenting the cheque Nathaniel Poya, PNGPCL Chairman, said:

As a State Owned Entity (SOE), PNG Ports Corporation is proud to be associated with the PNG Games as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility program. As a national entity that exists for the people of Papua New Guinea, we are happy to support the PNG Games which will bring 11,000 athletes and officials from 22 provinces to participate in the games.

We back the PNG Games, also known as the PNG Grassroots Games, because it provides an excellent avenue for PNG athletes to expose their talents and provide pathways in developing their skills towards professionalism.’

Grand Chief Boyamo Sali, Deputy Chairman of the HOC, said:

‘PNG Ports Corporation is growing from strength to strength. This announcement coincides with their major development at the Lae Ports to cater for increasing demand of cargo shipment from overseas and locally. PNG Ports must be complimented for its commitment to upgrading its port facilities and improving their levels of efficiency.

Similarly the PNG Games is preparing itself for a record number of athletes, officials and spectators in this games. The increased volume of visitors during this period requires a significant investment to coordinate the events and make them a memorable one.’
